Last year we decided to do the Pat's Run which is a 4.2 mile run honoring Pat Tillman. I thought I'd keep the tradition alive and do it again this year. Last year everything went so smoothly that I really didn't anticipate anything different.
It all started as we were driving to campus to meet up with some friends who were doing the race with us. Last year we didn't have any trouble parking, but this year, it was so crowded that we had to park over a mile away!! I thought about just going home because KK was already cranky, but we didn't. After parking, we made the long walk up to the starting line. One of the cops in the crosswalk told us there were over 25,000 people signed up for the race. No wonder it was so crowded!!
We met up with our friends Laura, Clint and their daughter Taylor. Since we both had jogging strollers, we had to start BEHIND the walkers, even if we planned on running. As we were waiting, and waiting and waiting for our turn to start the race, KK was getting antsy, so we let her walk around (she picked up litter) and then we noticed that our jogging stroller had a flat tire. Luckily we had the pump and Ty pumped it back up.
That put us behind so we ended up being one of the last strollers to start the race.
We started jogging and within 1/4-1/2 mile, we hit a WALL of walkers. It was impossible to maneuver around them. We tried though. We ran for about 20 feet and then had to stop. Run. Stop. Run. Stop. Eventually we hit so many people that running wasn't an option. To top it off, the tire was flat AGAIN.
KK was fussy, she kept on throwing her sippy cup overboard, we couldn't run, our tire was flat. It was an absolute disaster. We were looking forward to running and we didn't even get to jog. We both decided that even though it was for a good cause, there is NO way we are doing the run next year. So. Not. Worth. It. To think that we actually woke up at 5 a.m. to go run and then didn't even get to participate. Man oh man. I was super annoyed. This shirt says it all!
