15 Months

Here's the skinny on our skinny lil' munch.

20 lbs 8 oz (15th %) She did it! She's FINALLY over 20 pounds!
29 1/4 " (25th %)

She got 3 shots today. She handled them pretty good and only cried for a few minutes. She fell asleep in the car on the way to Lonna's so they must have knocked her out!
  • PCV7
  • Hep A
  • Hib
Dr. Campbell said she has clear ears (finally) and that should be her last ear infection because cold season is pretty much over! Thank goodness!

Here is what's new in the past 3 months. Some things I love, other things I don't.

Here are a few of my favorite things...
  • Walking
  • Running - chasing her burns calories. :)
  • Playing Hide N' Seek - she's a good seeker
  • Forward facing in the car seat
  • 1 nap per day - although she could still take 2
  • Finally learning the "eat" sign
  • Signing "potty" after she's gone potty
  • High-10 - she reaches up to be picked up and when I'm not in the mood to pick her up, I give her a 'high-10.' It's my way of redirecting ;)
  • B words...more like sounds (bird, blue, book)
  • Grabbing books and bringing them to us to read to her
  • Eating anything and everything, ALL DAY LONG
  • Fruit lover - watermelon, blackberries, cantaloupe, blueberries, strawberries, you name it!
  • Teefers -big ol' molars (12 teeth total)
  • Bottle free! - THAT was a challenge
  • Paci free - during the day...she still gets it in her crib
  • Independent player - we leave our front door open and she goes in and out of the house and plays in the side yard as well as in her room
  • Athlete in the making - soccer, golf, baseball, she loves anything with a ball
  • Dora obsesser - like seriously, she loves Dora and points at the TV and says "Doh!" Can't get enough of it. I sure can though!
  • Shoe lover -she always wants her shoes on, and if they aren't on, she brings them to me
  • Swimmer - well not really a swimmer, but she loves the pool.
  • Brushing her hair - she walks around with her brush, brushing her hair. It's super cute.
  • Throwing balls
  • Swinging on her swing set
  • Putting things back where they belong - she likes to remove things and put them back
  • Drinking from a water bottle (with daddy's help)
Here are a few of my NON-favorite things...
  • Mixing up her signs and signing "all done" for everything
  • Getting frustrated that she cannot communicate (read: frantic meltdown)
  • Hiding things - she doesn't always put them back!
  • Throwing food, sippy cups, tantrums, etc.
  • Bringing us her favorite book several dozen times a day. Find a new favorite book KK!
  • Throwing herself on the ground when she doesn't get what she wants
  • Restaurant high chair wiggle worm - needless to say, we don't go out to eat with her anymore
  • Milk hater - she still doesn't like the stuff

She is one busy body, but she is starting to get SUCH a personality, and I'm afraid it's pretty darn close to mine. Karma is a b!tch.

Sunday Funday with the Ghaemmaghamis

The past 2 Sundays we've gotten together with our friends Amanda and Vafa. I met Amanda the very first day of college and we've been great friends ever since. Her son, Naison, is about 9 months younger than Kaylynn. Since it was warm, we decided to check out their community pool.

We found a ball in the pool and so daddy and KK played a lot of catch. She's getting pretty good at throwing!

Kaylynn really enjoyed playing in the splash area.

It was such a fun time and I actually felt like I was on vacation. I can't wait until we go to Mexico this summer!

Pita Jungle at Galveston

For once, Tyson and I didn't overbook ourselves for the weekend so we had all day Saturday to do whatever we wanted. We decided to go pick up some Pita Jungle (our favorite restaurant) and head over to Galveston Park (a park right by where we used to live 6 or 7 years ago).

Ty's hobby used to be (pre Kaylynn) flying RC planes. Galveston Park is a "flying" park so we figured it would be nice to reminisce and let KK watch the planes (b/c she loves watching birds). It made me miss living in that area so much. :(

We enjoyed our lunch and had a relaxing afternoon.

Summa' Time

It seems like summer is right around the corner because the temps are getting warmer and so is our pool! So far we've been in the pool 3 times. Luckily, Kaylynn still enjoys herself some pool time! I'm looking forward to many more weekends in the pool.

KK splashing daddy and getting a kick out of it!

Isn't Cold Season Over???

Man, I thought that cold season was over, but I guess not! Kaylynn has been coughing a lot over the past 2-3 weeks and it has really affected her at night. She has waking up several times, usually between 3-6 a.m. I wasn't sure if it was because she was getting too much sleep (she was still taking 2 naps), teething (she's getting her molars) or her cough. Either way, I was frustrated and losing sleep. I transitioned her to 1 nap and that didn't seem to help. Typically I have a rule where I don't take KK to the doctor unless she has a fever. Kaylynn was fever free until yesterday. I ended taking the day off work (my first "sick" day since KK was born) and took her to see Dr. Campbell. Turns out, she has another ear infection. So back on antibiotics we go. Usually I end up waiting too long to take her to the doc and she ends up with a double ear infection, but this time we caught it early so I'm crossing my fingers that it will clear up quickly.

On a random note, they weighed her today and she was 19 pounds, 8 ounces. I thought for sure she was over 20 pounds! We go next week for her 15 month appointment. Hopefully she'll start eating better and finally reach that 20 pound mark! She's been 19 pounds since December! Geesh.

Feel better KK!

Way Back When-esday - Boo Bear

It's been a long time since I've done a Way Back When-esday and I'm so glad that I finally have something good to post!

When Ty was a baby, he had a little stuffed bear that he called Boo Bear.  He's managed to keep it all these years and so we pulled it out for KK to see if she would play with it.  Strangely, it's one of her favorite things.  She loves carrying it around after bath and before bed.  Sometimes she'll even walk around with Boo Bear hanging from her mouth!  She likes to bite his nose.  :)

Ty with Boo Bear in his play pen.

KK with Boo Bear.

Guess toys from the 1970's still hold up.  The tag says 1976 believe it or not!

Play along with Way Back When-esday at Twinfatuation!

Pat's Run...or Walk

Last year we decided to do the Pat's Run which is a 4.2 mile run honoring Pat Tillman.  I thought I'd keep the tradition alive and do it again this year.  Last year everything went so smoothly that I really didn't anticipate anything different.

It all started as we were driving to campus to meet up with some friends who were doing the race with us.  Last year we didn't have any trouble parking, but this year, it was so crowded that we had to park over a mile away!!  I thought about just going home because KK was already cranky, but we didn't.  After parking, we made the long walk up to the starting line.  One of the cops in the crosswalk told us there were over 25,000 people signed up for the race.  No wonder it was so crowded!!

We met up with our friends Laura, Clint and their daughter Taylor.  Since we both had jogging strollers, we had to start BEHIND the walkers, even if we planned on running.  As we were waiting, and waiting and waiting for our turn to start the race, KK was getting antsy, so we let her walk around (she picked up litter) and then we noticed that our jogging stroller had a flat tire.  Luckily we had the pump and Ty pumped it back up.

That put us behind so we ended up being one of the last strollers to start the race.

We started jogging and within 1/4-1/2 mile, we hit a WALL of walkers.  It was impossible to maneuver around them.  We tried though.  We ran for about 20 feet and then had to stop.  Run.  Stop.  Run. Stop.  Eventually we hit so many people that running wasn't an option.  To top it off, the tire was flat AGAIN.

KK was fussy, she kept on throwing her sippy cup overboard, we couldn't run, our tire was flat.  It was an absolute disaster.  We were looking forward to running and we didn't even get to jog.  We both decided that even though it was for a good cause, there is NO way we are doing the run next year.  So.  Not.  Worth.  It.  To think that we actually woke up at 5 a.m. to go run and then didn't even get to participate.  Man oh man.  I was super annoyed.  This shirt says it all!

The Wonders of Editing

We've been working on sounds and words with Kaylynn but it's been a struggle. She'll learn a word, and then lose it. When she first learns a word, everything becomes that word. ie, Pepper. Once she learned how to say Pepper, she would point at everything and say "Pep-ah" whether it be her toys or her sippy cup or her mama, everything was "Pep-ah." Well, now her new sound is "B." I think she knows how to say "bird," or in her words, "burr" but I highly doubt anyone else could tell what she is saying. She points to the sky and says "burr." Along with "burr" came "boo." So I tried to teach her the color "blue" so there would be something to coordinate with the sound.

While in the bath the other night, we were playing with her toys and she was saying "boo," so I kept on trying to hand her the blue toys so she would be able to put 2 and 2 together. Then out of nowhere, she picked up the yellow toy and it sounded like she said "yeh-whoa." Obviously, I know she didn't but it sure sounded like it. So I got out the flip to see if she would do it again.

Kaylynn is showing off how well she knows her colors. Blue and Yellow!

I thought about posting only these two videos to try to show off how smart she was, because, with the powers of editing, she obviously knows her colors! But, unfortunately, that's not exactly how it went down. I think it's only fair that with these edited videos, I post the whole video, just so you can see what REALLY happened in the bath. ;) A lot of "boos" and a whole lot of learning which color was which. I've been guilty of editing in the past...

*Warning, this video is LONG

It's amazing what you can do by editing a little bit, huh?

H2O is the way to go

Last week I tried to give Kaylynn a sip of my water through my straw and she was actually able to do it, so we went out and got her a new big girl sippy cup with a straw. She is so proud of her big girl cup that she won't put it down! She's constantly carrying it around. So cute!

Kaylynn loves loves LOVES water. She won't drink milk or juice, but she'll down 3-4 sippy cups of water a day! Way to stay hydrated KK!

So silly!

Beware of Baxter

Chuck and Diane took us to a Dbacks game last night, and while I was a little hesitant to go, I decided to bite the bullet. Ever since Kaylynn started walking, she wants nothing to do with sitting still, and I mean nothing! Chuck and Diane have amazing seats, so I was going to do my best to enjoy every moment I could watching the game from the seats, but I knew eventually, KK would want OUT!

We got there about 20 minutes before the game started and walked around a little bit. Kaylynn was really enjoying people watching. Then we sat down in our seats and the game began. So far so good. No meltdowns, just a calm KK. I think it helped that there was a super cute 2 year old boy in front of us. They were having a major stare down. Then it was time for dinner. Kaylynn ate a whole, yes WHOLE, hotdog. I was amazed. I think she liked the ketchup more than the hotdog itself. :)

Aunt DD held Kaylynn for most of the game. Kaylynn definitely wasn't complaining! They were clapping and playing patty cake.

Then at about the 4th inning we went to see Baxter in Baxter's Den. Last year we did the same thing and it went smoothly. This year, not so much. Kaylynn was TERRIFIED of Baxter. She screamed and wiggled and wanted nothing to do with him.

Then we went to the growth chart to see how much Kaylynn has grown over the past year. As we tried to put Kaylynn next to the growth chart she was not happy. There is a cutout of Baxter right next to the growth chart and she would not go near it, so I tried to hold her next to the chart, and she made it very difficult! Tyson even tried to comfort her!

Finally, a nice man walked by and offered to take our picture for us, so here it is, 2009 v. 2010!

After we were done with Baxter's Den we played at the Peter Piper Playhouse.

KK enjoyed playing on the tractor, driving the truck and riding the dragon!

Then she went to play with the big kids and run the bases! There was one boy who was very fond of Kaylynn and kept on patting her on the head and chasing her. It was really cute!

We went back to our seats and Kaylynn just relaxed in my lap. I've never seen her so calm before. It was seriously amazing. I can't believe she lasted the whole game. What a good girl she was!! I'm still soaking it up because the next experience is bound to be full of meltdowns and wiggle worms!

Eggs in a Basket

I hope everyone had a great Easter! KK sure loved the egg hunt. She had so much fun putting her eggs in her basket!

And, of course, being her SILLY self! She's so silly sometimes, but it cracks me up. :)

Going on an egg hunt...

...gonna catch a big one, what a beautiful day!

We're Going on a Bear Hunt is one of our favorite books to read! I can never get it out of my head!

Breakfast of Champions

Over the past few weeks, Kaylynn has been an EATING MACHINE!!! It's amazing how much food they can fit into their tiny bodies. For breakfast she was eating an entire mini bagel, a waffle, 2 scrambled eggs, a turkey sausage link and fruit. Seriously? My stomach hurts just thinking about eating all that! She would down food like it was nothing. I think she'd even give Kobayashi a run for his money.

Luckily these past few days she has seemed to slow down a bit, thank goodness. It was getting expensive feeding her! Here is a typical breakfast, the breakfast of champions I call it.

Strawberries (or any other fruit), waffles (or pancake or bagel) and turkey sausage. If daddy wakes up early enough he will also scramble eggs for her too. Spoiled much?

After all this eating she's been doing, she's gotta be 20 pounds now!
